Ghana Navy and the Kenyan Armed Forces have expressed commitment to exploring avenues for strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, particularly in maritime security, joint training, intelligence sharing and operational collaboration.
This was underscored during a courtesy call by the Kenyan Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Nyanga Morris Mungal, on the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul on Wednesday 4 November 2026.
Colonel Mungal, the first Kenyan Defence Attaché to Ghana, expressed his desire to establish a strong working relationship with the Ghana Navy, noting the longstanding military and diplomatic ties between the two countries. He emphasised the need to build on these existing relations through joint training, operational engagements and the exchange of information and expertise.
Commodore Abdul welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to strengthen defence relations with Kenya. He identified several areas of mutual interest, including maritime intelligence, counterterrorism, emerging security threats along Ghana’s northern borders and the application of technology in maritime operations.
He also highlighted the importance of joint training exercises, professional exchange programmes and resource sharing in enhancing the operational capabilities of both navies and improving their capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.
