Commodore Roger Bagoniah officially handed over the responsibilities of Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Naval Policy and Plans) to Naval Captain Douglas Akotey during a brief ceremony at the Naval Headquarters on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.
Commodore Bagoniah, now appointed Commodore Superintendent at the Naval Shipyard Sekondi, congratulated Naval Captain Akotey on his new role. He expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to drive continued progress within the Ghana Navy.
He highlighted that Naval Captain Akotey brings renewed energy, strong professional expertise, and enhanced capacity to advance key policy and planning initiatives for the service.
In his acceptance remarks, Naval Captain Douglas Akotey expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, for the trust and confidence reposed in him. He pledged full commitment to the new role.Naval Captain Akotey assured that he would build on the solid foundation laid by Commodore Bagoniah while vigorously pursuing Ghana Navy’s policy and planning objectives to strengthen operational readiness and effectiveness.
