The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command (WNC) Commodore Samuel Ayelazono held his last Durbar with Officers, Ratings, and Defence Civilian Staff under the command on Thursday 20 August 2026 at the Harry Seshie Drill Shed, Naval Base Sekondi. The durbar formed part of activities marking the end of Commodore Ayelazono’s tenure as the FOC of WNC and provided the opportunity for him to interact with personnel and officially bid them farewell.
Addressing the personnel, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono expressed appreciation to the personnel for their support, loyalty, and cooperation throughout his tenure. He commended them for their discipline and dedication to duty which he noted contributed significantly to the achievements of the Command. He used the occasion to introduce the incoming FOC Commodore Stephen Billins-Nyam to the personnel.
The FOC highlighted on progresses that had been made in maintaining operational readiness, protecting maritime interests, and improved welfare for personnel.
He used the platform to express gratitude to the Flag Officer Fleet, Naval Captain Bekuin Wurapa for improving the skills of personnel through sea training programmes. He further commended families of sailors whose sacrifices and patience, he stated has provided personnel with support needed to work out there.
The command recently held a religious thanksgiving service in honour of Commodore Samuel Ayelazono as part of activities marking the end of his tenure as FOC WNC.
