The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, has started the new year with a ceremonial quarter guard mounted in his honour and a tour of the Command on Monday, 5 January 2026.
Following the brief ceremonial parade, the FOC embarked on a familiarisation tour of offices and units under his command. During the tour, he interacted warmly with Officers, Ratings, and Defence Civilian Staff, exchanging new year greetings and commending personnel for their dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He took the opportunity to acquaint himself with ongoing activities, operational responsibilities, and administrative processes within the Command. He encouraged personnel to remain committed, disciplined, and united as they work towards achieving the Command’s mandate in the New Year.
The visit reaffirmed the FOC’s leadership presence and commitment to engaging directly with personnel, while setting a positive tone for teamwork, efficiency, and renewed focus within WNC.
The FOC interacted with the Flag Officer Fleet, Naval Captain John Bekuin-Wurapa at the Fleet Headquarters, with discussions centred on the new year’s operational activities and readiness within the Command.
Accompanying the FOC was the Command Operations Officer (COO), Commander JJ MacSimpiney and other Staff Officers.
