The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) General Headquarters held the 2025 End-of-Year West Africa Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) to promote unity, relaxation and esprit de corps among personnel, while providing an opportunity for reflection after a year of demanding operational engagements.
The colourful event was graced by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, as the Guest of Honour, underscoring government’s commitment to the welfare and morale of the personnel of GAF.
A key highlight of the event was a sod-cutting ceremony by the President for the construction of housing and related infrastructure projects to improve accommodation and welfare for GAF personnel. Vehicles were also presented to enhance mobility and operational efficiency.
As part of the celebration, deserving personnel were recognised for outstanding performance. Commander Ezekiel Anyimadu of the Ghana Navy won the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Prize Essay, Officers Category. Additionally, Able Seaman Class One Akutor Sarah Precious was promoted to Leading Seaman for her exceptional “Waves of Hope” initiative. She completed a 3.1-kilometre open-water swim from Busia Beach to Abokwa Island in support of the CDS’ Special Needs Facility Project.
