The Security and Internal Coordinator of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Alhaji Haruna Kamel, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, at the Naval Headquarters, on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.
During the meeting, Alhaji Haruna Kamel called for closer and more effective cooperation between the NPA and the Ghana Navy to tackle rising threats in the maritime domain, with a strong focus on illegal bunkering and fuel-related crimes.
The discussions centred on deepening joint efforts to address key security challenges, including illegal fishing, smuggling of goods, and other unlawful activities that undermine Ghana’s maritime economy and national security interests.
Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing warmly welcomed the NPA's initiative and reaffirmed the Ghana Navy’s full commitment to strengthening its partnership with the authority to improve maritime domain awareness and enforcement.
Both parties agreed that enhanced collaboration would significantly boost maritime security, deter criminal elements, and help curb illegal practices within Ghana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and territorial waters.
