The outgoing Turkish Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Armet Pakis, paid a farewell courtesy call on the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, at the Naval Headquarters.
The visit aimed at strengthening bilateral defence relations between Ghana and Turkey, particularly in training cooperation, maritime security, and joint naval exercises. It also allowed both sides to explore areas of mutual interest and enhance cooperation between their navies.
Colonel Pakis expressed appreciation to the CNS and the Ghana Navy for the cooperation, kindness and support extended to him during his tour of duty. He noted that both navies had considerable potential for further collaboration and expressed hope that the cordial relationship would continue under his successor.
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Bessing congratulated Colonel Pakis on the successful completion of his tour of duty and wished him well in his future endeavours. He emphasised the importance of strengthening defence cooperation, particularly in addressing maritime security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea.
The CNS further highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including the application of technology in maritime operations, intelligence sharing, training and support for improving facilities at the Naval Shipyard.
