The School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) of Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) held a graduation parade for students of the Seaman Gunners First Class Specialist Qualification Course 1-26 on Thursday 17 September 2026 at the NAVTRAC Parade Square, Nutekpor. The graduation parade formed part of activities marking the successful completion of the course, which was designed to equip the students with the requisite knowledge, skills and professional competence to undertake their responsibilities effectively within the Ghana Navy.
Throughout the course, the students were taken through key areas including Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), naval guns and ammunition, guided weapons, gunnery theory, weapon control systems and the principles of naval drills. The training combined classroom instruction with practical exercises to enhance the students’ understanding and application of naval gunnery and operational procedures.
As part of the practical component, the students participated in sea firing exercises and range work, as well as leadership presentations and a simulation of summary trial proceedings. They were also exposed to the Commanding Officer’s Request for Promotion process, aimed at broadening their understanding of personnel administration and preparing them for future leadership responsibilities as Coxswains in various naval establishments.
